SIOP Scholarships

For each Annual Meeting, SIOP provides scholarships to people who have insufficient resources to participate and travel to the meeting. Successful candidates will receive financial support towards their travel and accommodation cost up to EUR 1000 and free registration to the Annual Meeting. The SIOP board has decided to award all scholarship winners with a free SIOP membership for the next membership cycle, with the wish that you will continue to be an active member. Scholarship criteria are:
  • be under the age of 45 years (age is not an absolute limit, but priority will be given to young investigators)
  • live in a Low- or Lower Middle-Income Country (click here to view your eligibility)
  • be active in paediatric oncology: full time or at least 30%
  • be accredited in a hospital with a division for paediatric oncology
  • submit an abstract to the SIOP Meeting you wish to attend

SIOP Young Investigator (YI) Awards

These awards are designed to give young investigators, working in the field of paediatric oncology, the opportunity to present their original research at the SIOP Annual Meeting. Successful candidates will receive financial support towards their travel and accommodation cost up to EUR 1000, free registration and complimentary access to the Young Investigator Education Day. YI Award criteria are:
  • be under the age of 40 years
  • be active in paediatric oncology: full time or at least 30%
  • awards will be given to the highest ranking abstracts, selected according to the predefined general quality criteria, i.e. prospective multicentre studies, as well as presentation of large translational projects
  • the work described in the abstract should be original research and should not have been presented elsewhere

FAQ
  • If I will be selected for a SIOP Scholarship or Young Investigator Award, when will I receive the funds?
    The funds are provided after the meeting via bank transfer, provided the SIOP Secretariat receives all documentation needed (bank account detail form, receipts etc.)
  • Should a force majeure (illness, death of a close family member, major transportation challenges, etc.) prevent me from participating in the congress, will I be reimbursed upon provision of proof (medical certificate, letter from the transport carrier, etc.)?
    No. Applicants are strongly advised to obtain proper travel insurance.
  • Will I get reimbursed for visa application fees by SIOP in case I do not receive a valid visa on time?
    No, SIOP takes no responsibility for your visa application. Kindly allow plenty of time for the visa application process.
  • How can I obtain an official Invitation Letter by the meeting organizer?
    Official letters of invitation designed to help overcome administrative difficulties in certain countries can be sent to participants by the Secretariat.
  • Should you require an invitation please send an e-mail to siop@kenes.com
  • It must be understood that such letters do not represent a commitment on the part of the Organizing Committee or Congress Organizer to provide any financial assistance. If you require an original letter, it is recommended that you send your request 3 months in advance to account for delivery by post and administrative time.
